postheadericon Funpit relocated again

The Funpit has been relocated once again, this time to third studio at Forever Dance, a venue dear to the hearts of many Melbourne lindy hoppers. Unfortunately the ‘broken’ air conditioning in the main ballroom made for a challenging class, though the social dancing was eventually relocated to the back room. The back room is a long-standing late night venue for Melbourne lindy hoppers and features a stunning view of the city lights. It is, however, only marginally airconditioned and can become very warm. Despite this drawback, it is still a “good” space for serious dancing.

The final destination for the Funpit has as yet been unconfirmed.

Leading international lindy hopper Dawn Hampton today stated that Frankie Manning was “More of a lindy hopper to me than anyone else could ever be!” Mr Manning yesterday revealed that he had fabricated his career as a member of the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers.

Following calls from the Swing Dancers’ Action Group for Manning’s removal from the Lindy Hoppers’ Hall of Fame (LHHOF), LHHFOF president today stated that the organisation would “be thinking very carefully” about Manning’s future presence.
When asked for her opinion on the matter, Ms Hampton declared: “Don’t do it!”

Frankie Manning revealed yesterday that he was never a member of the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers.
“I made it all up,” Mr Manning said yesterday, “I wanted to be famous. I just thought it would be more fun than working for the postal service. Nobody got hurt. It was a victimless crime.”

Members of the Swing Dancers’ Action Group have called for Manning’s removal from the Lindy Hoppers’ Hall of Fame.

postheadericon Funpit venue for 2007 uncertain

Recent ‘scheduling’ difficulties at Sidewalk Tango saw the popular Funpit relocate to Forever Dance last week.
Dancers’ responses to the new venue were mixed, with comments ranging from

it was nice and big

to

it stunk

Melbourne’s lindy hoppers, once again laying weight to the time-honoured axiom that swing dancers are incapable of agreeing on anything other than that a floor must be ‘good’ and the music similarly so. The Funpit has proved one of Melbourne’s most popular social dancing events, and its loss to malodorous influences would be dire.
